The Great Wall

about

I proudly present the first single for my full length spoken word jazz album A Prayer For Rhythm it had been my dream to perform this piece in NYC on 9/11, but at the very least you can hear it. I remember what 9/11 felt like the ignorance and xenophobia that came after it towards Muslim people. I was in 8th grade on 9/11/2001 and at the time I was ignorant and didn’t understand what the “smoke’em out and bomb the shit out of them” mentality actually meant. I sit here a 28 year old man 15 years later hearing the exact same rhetoric against the exact same group of people furthermore there’s talk about building a wall and this talk is not talk I can vibe with…. 15 years ago today nearly 3,000 people died for no reason. People of all nationalities and all faiths legals and illegals rich and poor, law enforcement and civilian 15 years later I’m sure many of them are rolling in their graves. These 3,000 people are American heroes and they did not die so that 15 years later we can build upon a nation of hate. I remember in the days after 9/11 everyone came together, supported one and other, donated money and time, my family packed boxes for first responders who now are suffering from medical issues namely cancer from doing their sworn duties, and oh by the way they have to fight for medical care and government funding. Make no mistake we are in deep trouble as a nation. Full disclosure I have an anti-hillary piece called Bern’s Blues which will also be on the album. The days of coming together and taking care of our own are long gone. All it seems we care about collectively is where the next attack is coming from, whether the government is taking our guns, or whether we’re gonna build that wall. This is not the America they taught me about in middle school. This is something completely different and I for one am not okay with it. We are better than this… aren’t we? “If he builds it they will come for his job… and his head.”
